Nevertheless, there is enough demand in this price range to justify yearly updates from Razer and other competitors, even though many of us can only admire them from afar.

The latest version of the Razer Blade 15 has undergone only minor changes in its design, maintaining its slim and elegant appearance that we have become familiar with. Our assessment of the build quality remains largely unchanged from our review of the previous year’s Blade Advanced model. The dimensions of the 2022 edition remain identical, measuring 0.67 by 14 by 9.3 inches (HWD), and it weighs the same 4.4 pounds as its predecessor.

The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop is a real beauty to behold. The aluminum unibody chassis gives it a premium look and feel, while the slim profile and thin bezels make it a highly portable machine. The laptop measures 0.7 inches thick, which is relatively lightweight for a 15-inch laptop. The keyboard features per-key RGB lighting, which is customizable through Razer’s Synapse software. The touchpad is also excellent, providing accurate tracking and multi-touch gesture support.

Display Quality of Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop:

The Razer Blade 15 boasts a 15.6-inch Full HD display with a 240Hz refresh rate, making it a top choice for gamers who value high frame rates. The IPS panel provides excellent viewing angles and color accuracy, and the matte finish helps reduce glare. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, you can opt for the 4K OLED touchscreen display, which offers even better color accuracy and a wider color gamut.

The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop’s screen takes up almost the entire space. There is minimal bezel–also an advantage over the Macbook. This screen is big and bright. The configuration I saw was very saturated but looked fantastic. Couple this with the ergonomic comfort of the keyboard and you’re all good for working on emails. To be transparent, you’ll need to shift the laptop over a bit. More on that later though.

Performance and specs of Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop:

Under the hood, the Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop is a real powerhouse. It comes equipped with a 10th generation Intel Core i7 processor and up to 16GB of DDR4 memory. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card with Max-Q Design provides excellent gaming performance and is capable of handling demanding applications like video editing and 3D rendering. The laptop also features a fast 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, which delivers speedy load times and quick boot-ups.

Thermals and Fan Noise:

One of the main concerns with high-performance laptops like the Razer Blade 15 is heat management. Fortunately, Razer has done an excellent job in this regard. The laptop features a unique vapor chamber cooling system that helps dissipate heat more efficiently. Even during demanding tasks, the laptop remains relatively cool, and the fan noise is kept to a minimum. However, the fan noise can get loud under heavy load, which may be a concern for some users.

Battery Life with Display:

Battery life is always a concern with high-performance laptops, and the Razer Blade 15 is no exception. The laptop features a 80Wh battery, which provides decent battery life, but not the best in class. Under normal usage, you can expect to get around 6-7 hours of battery life, but this will vary depending on your usage patterns.

For gaming, you’ll likely need to keep the laptop plugged in, as the high-performance components drain the battery quickly.

In order to test the battery life of laptops, we use a standard method. We play a locally stored 720p video file, which happens to be the open-source Blender movie Tears of Steel, with the display brightness set to 50% and the audio volume at 100%.

The test continues until the system shuts down. Prior to the test, we ensure that the battery is fully charged, and we turn off Wi-Fi and keyboard backlighting. This standardized approach enables us to compare the battery life of different laptops and provide accurate information to our readers.

The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop has come a long way since its inception, but battery life has become a challenge in recent years due to the increasingly powerful components. While Razer’s machines used to lead the pack in terms of battery life, the more recent generations have fallen short in comparison to other high-end laptops.

However, the maximum brightness of the display falls short of its competitors. This means that the display may be harder to read in bright environments, but it is still adequate for most indoor use. Overall, the display is a strong point of the Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop, offering great color coverage and decent brightness.

Gaming Test of Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop:

When testing the graphics of Windows PCs, we use a variety of benchmarking tools to provide a comprehensive evaluation. We utilize two DirectX 12 gaming simulations from UL’s 3DMark, namely Night Raid (a more modest test suitable for laptops with integrated graphics) and Time Spy (a more demanding test suitable for gaming rigs with discrete GPUs).

Additionally, we use two more tests from GFXBench 5.0, which are run offscreen to allow for different display resolutions, to examine OpenGL operations.

Furthermore, we conduct three real-world game tests using the built-in benchmarks of F1 2021, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Rainbow Six Siege. These games represent simulation, open-world action-adventure, and competitive esports shooter genres respectively.

We run Valhalla and Siege twice at different image quality presets and F1 twice at max settings with and without Nvidia’s performance-boosting DLSS anti-aliasing. It is important to note that we conduct these game tests at 1080p resolution to ensure that the results can be compared between different systems. By using these tools and tests, we are able to provide a thorough evaluation of a Windows PC’s graphics capabilities.

Overall, the Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop performs well in our graphics tests. It delivers strong frame rates in the real-world games, averaging over 60fps in the most demanding title (Valhalla) at maximum visual settings. F1 2021 also runs smoothly, averaging over 90fps even without DLSS, and Rainbow Six Siege takes advantage of the display’s high refresh rate.

When compared to other gaming laptops, the Blade 15 Advanced outperforms the smaller Zephyrus G14 in average frame rate and mostly outperforms the Alienware X15’s standard RTX 3070 with its RTX 3070 Ti. However, there is some variation in performance by software rather than a universal power advantage. Therefore, hands-on testing is crucial, given their thermal and wattage differences.

Although the larger Legion laptops and their RTX 3080 GPUs provide superior performance, they do not always have significant leads over the Blade 15 Advanced, and the latter emphasizes portability and design. Therefore, the choice between them depends on personal priorities.

Finally, the new Razer Blade 15 Advanced Laptop maintains a tolerable fan noise level and does not become excessively hot during gameplay, despite its thinner design, which is impressive. Although some previous Blade models were notoriously loud while gaming, the latest iteration of the Blade 15 does not suffer from the same issue.
